This event is part of the Pan-Canadian Day of Action to end the war in Afghanistan and is timed to coincide with big demonstrations in the United States. But it’s not just about Afghanistan! It’s about the Harper government’s one-sided support for Israel. It’s about billions of dollars wasted on Stealth fighters, sabre-rattling about Libya and Iran, and the attacks on our freedom of speech (Remember the banning of George Gallowa...y from Canada and the banning of Dr. Finkelstein from Mohawk College?) and also the attacks on our freedom of assembly (Remember the G20?). These attacks, including the use of security certificates to lock up people in Canada for years without ever seeing their accusers or the evidence against them, have come as a result of the so-called “war on terror” which was invented by George Bush and parroted by Stephen Harper.

The event will be broadened by people clamouring for an end to Harper’s climate change sabotage, corporate tax cuts, and cuts to agencies like SISO, KAIROS, UNRWA, and CAF. We are sick and tired of the ODA-ious lies of the Harper government, their foot-dragging on native land claims, and the increasing social injustice their rule has created.
